Cityscape’s goal to impact a child’s life in offering peace and hope is met during this holiday season with its first ever Angel Tree.  Board members, administration, teachers, and staff members came together to spread awareness to this great cause allowing investment in the life of students by going beyond academics and offering families additional support they may need through the holiday season.   “We desire to be a light in our community and align with the mission of Cityscape Schools by leading and contributing to our community and society,” said Natica Jones, Counselor at East Grand Preparatory. Across the three campuses – East Grand Preparatory, Buckner Preparatory, and the Early Childhood Center – Cityscape was able to sponsor 28 students from 13 families. All who will receive their presents the week before leaving for their holiday break.  Students were able to write to an angel what they wished for Christmas, and then matched with a Cityscape staff member. There was a 100% Angel-to-student match. The gratefulness the families have already shown only inspires Cityscape to keep helping out the community.  “Many times, students read about acts of kindness, but rarely see it done,” said Felecia Lopez, Counselor at Buckner Preparatory. “The angel tree gives students this opportunity and an experience that they can carry with them throughout their life.” This program will stay to be an annual tradition at Cityscape after seeing the successful turnout from both parties – the helpful staff and families.…

Cityscape Schools Celebrates 12 Days Before Winter Break!

Students at the Early Childhood Center celebrate “12 days before Christmas plus 1” right before the Winter Break!  This year, the ECC started the Twelve days by wearing antlers or an elf hat and will end with students and staff wearing their favorite pajamas! A tradition that started about only two years ago and has become an annual celebration thanks to Mr. Lopez, principal at Cityscape’s Early Childhood Center.  The students really look forward to the holidays because of all the activities that the teachers and staff offer. The idea first came from Jingle Jangle, which was celebrated in conjunction with East Grand Prep. The center decided to modify this tradition once they moved into the new Early Childhood Center building.  “We made it so that the younger students could participate and facilitated the days,” said Mr. Lopez “The jingle jangle was great but there were some activities that the little ones couldn’t participate in.” One of the favorite days for the students is ugly sweater day, where the students wear a Christmas sweater. “I think the kids really like arriving at school in the morning and seeing their teachers and classmates in the holiday spirit. I see that they are excited to see what everyone is wearing,” said Mr. Lopez. Throughout the year, the staff creates different activities that both the students and parents enjoy, allowing for more parent involvement. “We’re creating moments that are influenced by this one activity in school and it expands to also create a closer bond between parent and child,” said Mr. Lopez. “They are bonding and getting excited to pick out what to dress up as for that day together.”Students from the other Cityscape…

Superintendent letter about Safety and Uvalde

May 26, 2022 As I stated yesterday, we are all deeply saddened concerning the senseless loss of life in Uvalde, Texas. Again, our collective thoughts and prayers are with our fellow Texans who experienced such a horrible tragedy.  Schools should be safe havens in our communities; a place where our students and educators collaborate, grow, and learn. And because it needs to be repeated:  keeping our students safe is our top priority.  Therefore, Cityscape Schools will have an increased security presence at both campuses for the remainder of the school year with off-duty Dallas police officers patrolling inside and outside the buildings intermittently throughout the school day.  I know our Cityscape family stands united in protecting our children as best we can from such senseless violence. May 25, 2022 As soon as I saw the heartbreaking news begin to unfold yesterday from Uvalde, Texas, my heart broke for that school district and community as the unimaginable became a sad reality. It has taken a little bit of time for me to be able to gather my thoughts and reach out to each of you to discuss this tragedy and what it means for us at Cityscape Schools. First and foremost, I want to emphasize that Cityscape joins with all school districts across our state and nation in extending sincere condolences to all those affected by these catastrophic events. Clearly, the effects of such an occurrence will be felt right here at home and many may feel a heightened concern about school safety within the Cityscape community. The school counselor and administrators stand ready to respond to the needs of students, parents and staff. If your child needs support processing what…
