As I stated yesterday, we are all deeply saddened concerning the senseless loss of life in Uvalde, Texas. Again, our collective thoughts and prayers are with our fellow Texans who experienced such a horrible tragedy. Schools should be safe havens in our communities; a place where our students and educators collaborate, grow, and learn. And because it needs to be repeated: keeping our students safe is our top priority.
Therefore, Cityscape Schools will have an increased security presence at both campuses for the remainder of the school year with off-duty Dallas police officers patrolling inside and outside the buildings intermittently throughout the school day. I know our Cityscape family stands united in protecting our children as best we can from such senseless violence.

As soon as I saw the heartbreaking news begin to unfold yesterday from Uvalde, Texas, my heart broke for that school district and community as the unimaginable became a sad reality. It has taken a little bit of time for me to be able to gather my thoughts and reach out to each of you to discuss this tragedy and what it means for us at Cityscape Schools. First and foremost, I want to emphasize that Cityscape joins with all school districts across our state and nation in extending sincere condolences to all those affected by these catastrophic events.
Clearly, the effects of such an occurrence will be felt right here at home and many may feel a heightened concern about school safety within the Cityscape community. The school counselor and administrators stand ready to respond to the needs of students, parents and staff. If your child needs support processing what happened, please reach out to your campus and request a conference with your child’s principal or the counselor.
Let me state with clarity and confidence that your child’s physical and emotional safety is our top priority. Further, we want to assure our families that preparing for emergencies and promoting a safe learning environment for our students are ongoing at each Cityscape campus. The district works closely with agencies within our community to protect students, staff and facilities. The district also has a number of programs and protocols in place to promote safe schools and mitigate concerns, including implementing the Standard Response Protocol, a nationally recognized methodology that, through training and practice, ensures a uniform emergency response by faculty, staff and students.
As a precautionary measure, we are asking that parents and community members not attend the upcoming end-of-year assemblies at all Cityscape campuses. More information will follow from each campus principal about live-streaming capabilities so that parents and other interested parties are able to watch the assemblies from their homes.
Cityscape Schools, with the full support of our school board, continues to evaluate our safety and security measures for options that may enhance student and campus safety. We know that you entrust us with those whom you hold most dear, and we thank you for your continued trust.
